Psychiatry Services in New Rochelle and Mount Kisco

The evaluation process involves careful assessment of developmental and biological determinants of psychiatric and psychological symptoms as well as the family system. The evaluation then leads to formulation of a treatment plan in collaboration with the family as well as the school when appropriate. Dr. Wolfson's approach is eclectic and pragmatic, integrating different treatment modalities including individual and family therapy, and careful pychopharmacalogical intervention. Below is a brief description of some of the most common conditions treated by Dr. Wolfson as well as modalities used in treatment.

Asperger's Spectrum Disorders in Children and Adolescents

Children and adolescents with an Asperger's Spectrum Disorder have three main types of issues, having to do with their communication, social development and social imagination (interests and behavior). For these patients, Dr. Wolfson will tailor therapy for each child or adolescent's unique, individual needs.  Areas of need are evaluated and a range of therapy options are discussed with the family.

Mood Disorders Such as Depression, Anxiety and Bipolar Disorder in Adults, Children and Adolescents

For many years, depression and other mood disorders were thought to be afflictions of only adults. Within the past three decades, however, it has become evident that mood disorders are common among children and adolescents. Therapy for these mood disorders may include cognitive training, education and support (for both the patient and the patient's family) as well as medication.

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)

ADHD, or attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, is a behavioral condition that makes focusing on everyday requests and routines challenging. People with ADHD typically have trouble getting organized, staying focused, making realistic plans and thinking before acting. They may be fidgety, noisy and unable to adapt to changing situations. The first step in working with ADHD patients is to provide a thorough assessment before making a diagnosis. Dr Wolfson will then develop a treatment plan that may include medication, therapy, parent consultation, family therapy, group therapy, and/or educational therapy. Your treatment plan will be developed around your family and values.

Family Therapy

Family therapy provides a unique and safe environment where a child can explore difficult feelings and relieve distress. Through the therapeutic relationship, a child begins to understand his or her feelings, learns new ways of coping, and improves their self-esteem. Using family therapy, Dr. Wolfson can help parents understand their child's emotional and behavioral issues as well as helping parents develop strategies for addressing these concerns.

Marital Therapy

This is offered to adults who are experiencing significant problems in their relationship. Dr. Wolfson will help you and your partner identify areas of conflict and suggest new ways of interacting that will increase your satisfaction with the relationship.
